According to the announcement shared by the two parties, “The shareholders of ION SA and the businessman Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos are pleased to announce their agreement to establish a strategic partnership aiming at further developing the historic chocolate industry. Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos will participate in the share capital of the company, initially acquiring 45% of the shares, while in the future he will have the option to acquire the majority.”
ION SA is a large Greek chocolate industry with a history of 92 years that many generations of Greeks have loved dearly. The Greek identity of the brand and the consistently high quality and unique taste of its products, are interweaved with the memories of most -if not all- Greeks’ childhood and adult life.
Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos is the businessman who created the Greek CHIPITA and gave it an international orientation and perspective. Based on innovation, the company’s unique products were loved by consumers worldwide.
According always to the announcement, “the decisive role in reaching the agreement was played by the common principles and values, the common vision for a dynamic development and expansion in the foreign markets, in which Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos has a proven and extremely successful course, and, last, but not least, the strengthening and perpetuation of the historical chocolate industry’s Greek identity.”
The current shareholders of ION SA, who will continue to exercise the management of the company, stated in a joint communication: “ION is our historical family, which we have always treated with a lot of love, care and, above all, a sense of responsibility. In this context, and with a forward-looking approach, we decided to join forces with the successful businessman Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos. We firmly believe that the common values and principles, and, above all, our common vision, will be a springboard for our company, creating a great course in the future”.
