Virtual Greek Tourism Gastronomy Workshop

Greek quality products reach key markets abroad, while Greece’s tourism season is extended, as far as the British market is concerned, through alternative forms of tourism; This was the main takeaway from the 1st Virtual Greek Alternative Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop in the United Kingdom, which took place on Wednesday 24 March. The event, which was under the auspices of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, featured 684 B2B meetings and was attended by 117 travel agents and journalists, as well as 37 companies, British importers and wholesalers in the Food & Beverage sector.

Strong interest

Interest for the 2021 tourist season, as it emerged from the participations in the 1st Virtual Greek Alternative Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop in the United Kingdom, was extremely strong. British agents were informed on the new products of Greece in the tourism sector and showed particular interest for new travel destinations —a fact foreboding a very positive 2022.
Most of the British tour operators and agents estimated that despite the pandemic, the British will want to travel in both October and November this year, hoping that the British government will lift travel bans for the whole month of June.

About the workshop

The Greek Alternative Tourism & Gastronomy Workshop is created for tourism businesses and public entities interested in promoting their products and services for alternative tourism. It is the only workshop exclusively for the alternative side of tourism.
During the events, the participants have the option on one hand to present their suggestions for alternative tourism to travel agents and tour operators and on the other hand to promote to specialised professionals, wholesale buyers and decision makers from chain stores the local products and their gastronomy options.
