KIR YIANNI Estate (Ktima) in Naoussa, one of the largest vineyards in Northern Greece, has recently introduced a significant green campaign, delivering a meaningful environmental message. Its Ble Tracter wine turned… green, not by changing its name or colour but through reducing the weight of its bottle.

Starting from 2025, KIR YIANNI Estate – the first Greek winery to join “International Wineries for Climate Action”, reduces the weight of the Ble Tracter bottle (across the white, rosé, and red range) by 90 grams.

This seemingly minor adjustment leads to a pivotal environmental impact. Within just one year, it is expected to save 34.2 tons of glass and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 11.2 tons: the equivalent of the electricity consumed by an average four-person household over five years, or the gasoline used by a typical car over 3.6 years. It is also noteworthy that each new, lighter bottle of Ble Tracter now contains at least 72% recycled glass.

“Sustainability requires a holistic approach. What’s needed is a cultural shift in our everyday mindset, a philosophy that highlights the significance of investment, research, and measurable actions, not just storytelling. For KIR YIANNI Estate, sustainability is part of our DNA, not simply a marketing strategy”, states Yiota Karanatsiou, Marketing Manager of the company.

It is noteworthy that the innovative winery from Northern Greece became the first in the country to measure and verify its carbon footprint – according to ISO 14064 standards – in Naoussa and Amyntaio.
