Macedonia the Great, trademark

The presentation of the Macedonian products trade name took place on 14 November 2019 by the Greek Exporters Association (SEVE) at a press conference in Thessaloniki, northern Greece. The press conference was attended by the Greek Prime Minister, Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the political leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demonstrating the government’s support for this significant initiative.
The establishment of the Macedonian trade name aims to protect all Greek products produced in the Region of Macedonia, by combining the area’s history and heritage through authentic, genuine and quality products created by the members of the Greek Exporters Association. The trade name was selected and designed with great care, taking into account all relevant parameters and those laid down in the Prespa Agreement, in order to limit all possible negative effects and to create an umbrella for Greek Macedonian products. The purpose of the Macedonian trade name and trademark is to convey multiple messages to consumers and, ultimately, to link the name MACEDONIA to its long-standing Greek tradition and history.

The Greek Exporters Association application for the registration of a trade name/trademark will apply to all the basic categories of products and services and will be accompanied by regulations governing use, according to which each company whose products come from the Region of Macedonia and specifically from the prefectures of Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia and Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, will be granted the right to use it.
This collective trademark will primarily serve as a vehicle for highlighting and promoting the products of Greek companies abroad, and will connect Macedonia and Greece to the consciousness of consumers in European and other international markets. To achieve this goal, SEVE will work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Greece.
