Strawberry exports have set a historic record for the period from January 1st to June 23rd, according the weekly report of INCOFRUIT, the Greek Association of Export and Distribution of Fruits, Vegetables and Juices: for the period between January 1st and June 23rd 2022, exports amount to 70,319 against 64,962 tons in 2021, increased by 8.2%, setting a historical record for yet another year.

It is worth noting that the harvest of summer fruits and vegetables continues unimpeded, as reported by the Association. In particular, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, exports see a significant increase in apricots (+ 48.7%), peaches (+ 36.1%) and nectarines (+ 55.6%).

According to Mr. George Polychronakis, Special Adviser of the Association, this year’s production of summer fruits, considering the weather conditions and the damage caused so far, is estimated to be a normal year, keeping numbers close to 2020 levels. Also, exports are estimated to be closer to 2020 numbers, as production, and consequently exports, during 2021 decreased due to disasters in production caused by weather conditions.
